Victoria University of Wellington is a fine arts college for those of which have wanted to accomplish their goals within the theater, art, and music aspirations of life. Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie were students at this establishment during 1998. Jemaine and Bret furthered their career in 2002 when they started performing duet performances around their home town. They left the five man band and only Bret and Jemaine survived the harsh times of becoming a music artist. They went to multiple festivals and were in a phone commercial in 2004. The boys made head way when American TV channel HBO discovered them on ABC TV in Australia. HBO gave them a half hour comedy stand up on One Night Stand. They made their way to Texas and later made a documentary of the Fight of the Conchords. In 2007 they preformed on David Letterman’s Late Show. They appeared at a music festival in Tennessee; late on “the Distant Future” was released. They went New York and late in 2007 they visited Late Night Conan O’Brien show and word was spread further everywhere. In 2008 Flight of the Conchords won a Grammy for best comedy album for The Distant Future. From 2008-2009 Flight of the Conchords performed multiple free shows all over the world. The band started on HBO and at the same time they had a show in Canada. The duo has appeared in films such as Diagnosis: Death, Eagle vs. Shark, and Gentleman Broncos. The group has achieved many awards in America and in New Zealand. They’ve won awards such as Bronze (comedy), Grammy for best commedy album, Album of the year, best group, breakthrough artist of the year, and international achievement.
Through my discovery of Flight of the Conchords I have learned much about them. They have performed many concerts and that has led them to creating multiple music videos. These videos can be seen on the web or on the seasons from HBO channel. I have found out about Flight of the Conchords from my friend Shannon Martin. The band has a history within the Martin and Fever family. Flight of the Conchords performed a free concert and at the time they weren’t famous at all. Shannon’s sister Kelly Fever discovered them at a free showing. She bought the first season of Flight of the Conchords and pasted it on to her sister. The second season came out was a major hit to everyone that viewed it. I happened to stumble upon it when I saw it with Shannon. From that moment on I have watched the entire second season and will eventually watch the first season. I have the Flight of the Conchords CD, and I enjoy it very much.
The music style of Flight of the Conchords is comedy, folk, and acoustic all rolled into one sound that I have heard from no one else. The music has not been challenged by any other unique band anything like Flight of the Conchords. I suggest to everyone that they should listen and watch FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS.
